Thanks for your replies. The person I was talking with was adamant that he was the one to come up with the term but was unwilling to do any research himself. The male exJW ego is a funny thing.

For Minimus, and other old timers who remember H2O and the early days of exJW discussion boards
by Broken Promises ini'm having a debate with someone on facebook who claims he came up with the term "borg" in reference to the wts back in the mid 2000s.
however i'm certain the term was used on h2o as early as 1999 as well as here when this site was first set up.. can anyone confirm that i'm not dreaming?
what's the earliest you remember seeing the term being used?.

You're doing the right thing. I understand how difficult it is, but your mother's comfort is of paramount importance.
I hope you have a support network in real life too.

Elders finally took me to the back room...
by OneDayillBeFree inafter several months of leaving the meetings as soon as they ended or only staying for "the first meeting" then leaving the "second part", the elders finally cornered me at last night's meeting.. they said they were concerned about me and that being that i am a young brother in a recently divided congregation they saw so much potential in me to help out the congregation and become a ms.. i told them i was thankful for their thinking of me to help the congregation but that at the moment i could not due to my job.
then the began asking personal questions that got on my nerves.. they asked where i worked and how much i made.
they asked if i was going to college and what i was studying and for how long.

The elders only have as much power over you as what you give them.
The next time they say they want to talk to you, just say, "I'm right thanks" and DON'T get into further discussion with them.

JWs say it's my fault I didn't go to university ?!
by ekruks inlike many on here, as a jw trying hard to follow the direction of the gb, i listened to the advice to pioneer and trust in jehovah to provide (mat6.33) instead of going to university.
after struggling for ages in low-paid physically-demanding jobs, i decided to become a student (thanks for the encouragement on here guys!).
i tell a jw i wish i had been to university when i was a teenager, and put all that pioneer time into studying hard for a good grade, get a good job, and if i had wound up tired as i am now, at least i would have been paying into a mortgage on a home and pension.

JW - It's your fault, you didn't need to pioneer, you chose to, but could have been like other brothers who don't [put the Kingdom first]
Me - It's expected for a brother to reach out. I was only doing what the Watchtower encourages.JW - You have to use common sense! Don't just do what you are told.
Me - If I can pick and choose which bits to follow, and ignore some, I could just ignore all the Watchtower !
JW - You made the problem for your self by taking what people say too seriously.
Just a thought, but is this JW someone who is "awake" to the games of the WTS and was trying to tell you (not knowing your true thoughts), to not take the JWs so seriously and live your own life?
In other words, another fellow inside "apostate"?

Bombing of KH in Sydney australia late 1980's ?
by zeb ini recall the moment i heard of this on the radio.
but there was little mention of it in months oryears later.. does anyone know what became of the victims?.
-
Broken Promises
I think they were pretty sure the guy who planted the bomb was an unbelieving husband of one of the sisters in the congregation, but they couldn't prove it for some reason.
That's what I remember about the suspect too. There was some technicality that prevented them from pinning it on him.
I was talking to someone in Sydney during the 90s who said the Hall had been cleaned on the Saturday and was left unlocked. This gave the bomber enough access to somehow put the bomb underneath the platform.

jwfacts is the guy who'll know most of the details I bet.
The guy who was "thrown thru the roof" survived. I remember reading an article about him in a woman's magazine about a year after. He was an elder and I remember him giving talks at the district conventions.
If I remember correctly, it happened around 1983.
